Path of Exile Unarmed Marauder Build

Path of Exile Unarmed Marauder Build by Zaimoxis

Are you tired of using weapons against the scum in wraeclast? Do you feel that death by arrow, wand, sword or any kind of weapon is too merciful towards the hoards of enemies?

Then the unarmed path is for you!

This is a devastating extremely high dps, all out hp/regen build. You ask how that is possible? Well, you never, ever put any points in any damage node in the tree. NEVER. All your points will go in hp, regen and armor nodes only.

*new theorycraft build at the bottom ( not tested, unlike the one explained below)

Small step by step guide

Spoiler

1. Pick the manliest, most badass motherf.. name you can think of for your character.
2. Dominate with ease early on.
3. After you get bm, use 2 flasks of hp, 1 amethyst flask( can be replaced with a hp flask that reduces recovered amount by 25%, but instantly heals when at low HP), 1 granite flask, and 1 elemental resistence flask ( preferably with increased movement speed, so you won't need quicksilver flask) for the most common element used by mobs ( for example, ruby flask in act 3)
4. In cruel, at around level 40+ ( or when you feel you are having a hard time), you will need to up your gear, and stack hp and resistence gear.
5. Upon meeting a rather large, heavy damage dealing crowd, use Warlord's Mark, activate Molten Shell, if the mob is dangerous use Enduring cry, then go use Infernal Blow up close. After Molten Shell explodes, if you are still in danger, run back a bit and repeat the process, or just use a flask if you believe you are capable of killing them before they kill you.

*Small note: Unlike most other builds/curses, upgrade Warlord's Mark like any other gem. The increased hp cost isn't even noticeable to a very high hp/regen bm marauder, but getting a curse on the entire screen one try is worth while, especially when combined with Molten Shell.

Otional steps:
Spoiler

1. Hit level 16 and get to act 2.
2. Try out PvP.
2-b. Contain your laughter.
3. One shot every non-marauder below level 24-25.
4. Kill anything in under 3 blows at level 28/has good gear.
5. Cry when you meet a very experienced PvP shadow with bear traps and whirling blades.
6. Gain confidence back when you one shot witches at level 28.
7. DOMINATE.
8. Make sure they know you don't use weapons and that they are cowards for doing so.

Pros and cons
Spoiler

+it is quite easy to pull off
+insane dps
+insane dps without ever focusing on getting better weapons, right gems, right sockets
+very good survivability
+necromancer mobs are no threat because you blow up everything and don't leave corpses
+INSANELY fun
+you punch shit and it explodes
+you can make fun of anybody using weapons for being cowards
+you can focus on upgrading much fewer gear
+scales very well
+you can link item quantity + item rarity to infernal blow without gimping your damage
+you do not need any elemental resistance until cruel act 3, because you take out your targets so fast they can't do proper damage

-the gear that you will need is expensive and very specific
-you lack proper aoe damage, since molten shell will be your main aoe damage dealer
-you are melee
-cannot farm for items/orbs as efficiently as other classes
-entirely gear dependent
-extremely limited number of usable skills
-pure melee, no ranged skills whatsoever
-no disables, knockback, stuns, etc

Requirements:

You can only do this IF you have the following items, ready to be used by the time you hit level 16:

Facebreaker Strapped Mits with 950% bonus unarmed
Meginord's Girdle
Broadstroke Heavy Quiver
2 iron rings ( or if you have better physical damage rings, then those)
The manliest, most badass mother... name you could have provided for your character

Ezomyte Peak - ONLY AS OPTIONAL GEAR - to be used ONLY if you think you can handle without the armor and resists that a good helmet would give you

Daresso's Courage - OPTIONAL GEAR - to be used in Merciless if you really need extra survivability

Passive build and explanation:
(build and initial paths provided by missuse)

Your first priority is to get Resolute Technique as fast as possible. After that, your main concern is to get the Blood Magic node, after the 2 12% hp nodes near life leech. Take the shortest routes to both if necessary.
After BM, continue down the bottom nodes to the 2nd Golem Blood node, and finish up that cluster. Then continue up to the templar tree and finish up all the clusters there. At the end, go for the HP clusters at the middle.

And yes, no points in any resist nodes. If necessary, at higher levels, just use a spec point and put one it, but only if you can't handle the mobs.

Infernal blow - after bm, replace normal attack with this because this is your main damage
Inferna blow MUST be used with melee physical and added fire since you get blood magic. Faster attacks and anything else is just a mere bonus.

Molten shell - extremely good defense and offense combined

Warlord's mark - use with molten shell for extremely high survivability

Endurance cry - same as above

Blood rage - only use at very high level, since your hp regen cannot sustain it early

Frenzy - can be a viable replacement to blood rage, and from early on

Dominating blow - this is just for lols. you will see why after you use it.

anger + wrath aura - don't expect a massive dps boost, they will provide a very minor boost
and that's it, because you have close to default intel which won't allow you to equip other auras, plus you don't need them

Infernal blow
melee physical damage + added fire damage + faster attacks + whatever

I haven't tested out gems for Molten shell yet, but you don't really need that.

Bandit rewards:
On all difficulties, help Oak.

Flask tips
Both HP flask MUST have the increased recovery by 50-100% without the "reduced HP amount".
One HP flask must have increased armor and the other either remove curse or increased resistances.
Instant HP recovery and any reduced recovery amount is very bad for this build due to having extremely high HP.

Don't be shy of using your flasks. Meginord's belt will allow for an extremely easy refill at all times.

Necessary gear/recommended gear examples

Spoiler

The helm and boots aren't necessarily the best, but they are decent enough to be used.

What to look for in your gear ( from most needed to optional/for the perfect item)
Rings: iron rings with + physical damage, +resists, +hp, +attack speed, +life leech, +hp regen, +increased fire damage, +any other added damage, +strength

Amulet: onyx amulet with +resists, +hp, +life leech, + attack speed, +hp regen, +increased fire damage, +any other added damage, +strength

Helmet: armor only helmets with +2 resists, +hp, +increased armor, with at least 3 red sockets linked

Chest: armor only chests with +2 resists, +hp, +increased armor, with at least 3 red sockets linked

Boots: armor only boots with +2 resists, +hp, +increased armor, +increased attack speed, +movement speed, with at least 3 red sockets linked

Note: you must have 3 red sockets linked on your gear at any time. After that, you don't need gear with that specification unless you plan to upgrade.

I hope you enjoyed my guide to unarmed marauder. If you have any questions, or suggestions, feel free to post. I do not think my guide is perfect yet, but you can help me improve it :)

Good luck and have fun blowing shit up!

*THE NEW THEORYCRAFT BUILD ( need opinions from experienced Merciless players)
Thought of this potential build:
Increased damage, less pure defensive nodes but you will rely on a shield more. You would need Ezomyte peak instead of Broadstroke, but it might actually make you even tankier and have a higher DPS at the same time. Might actually rely less on Ezomyte or Daresso's too, which allows for easier gear upgrades.
