Path of Exile Sporklar Totem Templar Build

Path of Exile Sporklar Totem Templar Build by nopoda

Whoa..whoa..whoa, Totems were nerfed they suck now!! Now now, its not that bad. Sporklars where changed a bit but are still Very Good if you set them up right.

I'll start by saying my first HC char to make it to end game(and only so far) was a spork templar. As a few players have stated its not the easiest to lvl up, as your dmg is low for awhile, but it was definitely safe(with just a couple exceptions). So it is now known that you dont get spell totem until Merv quest in Act 1 cruel. This creates a definate problem. How do I make it to the end of act 1 cruel and not have to completely respec into totems later? Well it turns out you can groundslam and glacial hammer you way there with little invested in the tree to do so(2 handed). Heres what my tree looked like up to the point that I got Spell Totem.

Skill Tree

That is what your tree should look like at lvl 31(getting all available skill points from your normal quest minus the bandit). Keep in mind that you should be leveling Spark and Fork as soon as you get your hands on them. The 6 points you have invested into melee skills are plenty to power GS/GH through Cruel Mervail. Once you are in act 2 Cruel you simply need to make it to Fellshrine Ruins. Once there you have two options but one objective: to get your spark totems to usable dmg. This is achieved by either using your totems to lvl there or, if you haven't been leveling spark/fork, continuing to Ground Slam until your gems reach suitible levels. I gained about 8 levels there(just a personal preference)and felt at about lvl 39 I was ready to Spork my way to Victory!!

So, the question is, when your char is ready to spork where do you go next in the tree? Well first lets address those 6 points in melee skills. Fourtanly you will have accumulated 6 respec points through Normal difficulty(fetid pool, golden hand, and act 3 busts). You can respec all 6 or, leave the +20 str and +20 dex nodes until you have access to +30 nodes later on or, just plain leave them! At this point where you go in the tree is really up to you, but Most folks would agree that Static Blows is a node you want. Best I can guide you from here is what my tree looks like at lvl 73 taking all available skill points minus the norm act 2 bandits(where i took the +40 to life)

As you can see, I decided to go the route of minions. While there are not fully powered atm, by lvl 80 they should be capable of distracted mobs long enough for my totems to do their job(they do ok now but I also repeatedly summon them). I do not plan to use any +minion gear except a nice rare helm.

Supplemental Damage

As noted by others, It is best to have other sources of damage to help your totems along. I believe Bear trap is probably the best option, but I'm such a huge fan of Fire Trap that I use it instead. Its really just a personal choice and and equates out to this: Bear trap has higher single target damage; Fire trap has better Aoe dmg and Lower Dex Requirements.

Along these lines are Curses. I have been using Conductivitey and Enfeeble and find them to be exactly what I need. I use Conductivitey for lightening resistent mobs and Enfeeble for Large packs as they are often able to swarm fast enough to take down my minions/totems before the mobs, themself, die.

Problems for the build

1. Large packs of champions. Until your dmg is high enough/minions strong enough you will have to out skill these encounters.

2. Piety. She can be tough in both encounters. I have found that in her first encounter the room is not very suitable to dmg her and she moves alot which requires alot of mana re summoning totems. The second encounter is bad for the same reasons(mostly her mobility and damage is the problem).

3. I have only done a few maps so there may be some encounters that are not very suitible. I just havent experienced them yet.

4. Leveling can be a pain and the difficulty of the leveling is going to be largely dependant on your knowledge of the game. I am fairly versed in the game mechanics so I found leveling to be realitively easy to mildly difficult. If you are New to the game this May Be a hard build to start with.

My setup

Skills

Spark(spell totem, fast cast, lightening pen, fork. I'll add in added chaos dmg once I get a 6 link)

Clarity,Determination,discpline(all supported by reduced mana)

Summon Zombie, Summon Skelletons(minion life for both)

Fire Trap(fire pen, added chaos dmg)

Conductivity and Enfeeble
